Stephen Wiltshire artwork raises more than $11,000 for BASE!

The recent visit of British artist Stepehn Wiltshire, MBE, who is autistic, was a huge success. Organised by the Bermuda National Gallery, an original drawing of Hamilton by Stephen was sold for $11,000 at a gala fundraiser with sales of prints raising $22,800 in total with proceeds split between BASE and the BNG.

City Hall turning blue for autism!

City Hall, Hamilton will join some of the world’s most famous buildings in “turning blue” on April 1 to mark World Autism Awareness Day and the start of Autism Awareness Month. Hamilton’s famous landmark will “light up blue” along with buildings such as the Empire State Building in New York City and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada which will be lit up as part of a worldwide “Light It Up Blue” campaign. The campaign, organised by Autism Speaks aims to “shine a light” on autism as a growing global health crisis. Read more >>

Autistic artist Stephen Wiltshire to visit Bermuda

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day the Bermuda National Gallery will be showing a film about renowned British autistic artist, Stephen Wiltshire, who will be visiting Bermuda from May 17 to 23, 2010.Known for his detailed cityscapes, Stephen has a particular talent for drawing to-scale and accurate representations of cities, sometimes after having only observed them briefly.

The film will be shown from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm following the Proclamation of World Autism Awareness Day on the steps of City Hall at 12.30. Admission: FREE

Stephen, who is expected to visit many of the island's schools, has agreed with the BNG to create a unique view of Bermuda - prints of which will be available for auction. In addition, he will attend a gala fund-raising dinner on May 22 with proceeds being shared between the BNG and BASE.
